The Roto Fly

RotoFly Instructions & Tips

  • Batteries are always positive (+) end up.
  • For foam disk attachment to motor. Loosen hub set screw before inserting motor shaft. The hub screw is tightened down prior to shipping.
  • When using barbed hooks, back the hook out by pushing down on the top side of hook so barb will not catch the foam and rip it out. This will optimize the disk's life cycle. Replacement disks are available (see captruss.com page.)
  • Always transport your Rotofly with the batteries inside the tube to protect tube. If more protection is needed, see your favorite hardware store and ask for 1-1/4" PVC, (the length of the battery tube.) It should fit just right for transporting the Rotofly safely.
  • The stand (clipper clip) is attached to the Rotofly motor itself. Adjust (rotate) clip to allow for the turning on and off of motor.
  • To dry flies that have a weedguard such as monofilament or wire, use a ladies bobby pin stuck into the foam to hold the flies by their sides. This will hold the fly by their sides, keeping the weedguard from being damaged while drying. This also works great for holding eyes (lead, brass, etc.) that are being painted. Monofilament eyes, like those made for many shrimp patterns, can be stuck into the foam after burning the end and epoxied/painted or both.
  • It has been brought to our attention that some adventurous tiers are attaching pieces or larger foam to the existing disk or hub for a quantity of flies to be dried at the same time. This should not be a problem as the motor has plenty of torque (within reason of course.)
